Bending and stretching exercises are a must to loosen up your muscles. Simple ones at home like sit-ups, leg stretches, toe touching can all help to lubricate the key muscles in the body to prepare for your golf swing. Setting up in front of a full-length mirror to check out your address position in relation to the golf ball is very important.

Your stance should be the width of your shoulders inside your insteps with your weight distributed on both feet equally.
Your arms should be hanging straight down from your shoulders with your left arm straight but relaxed. Your hands should be directly under your eyes with the clubface placed in front of and aligned inside your left heel.
Grip the club with both thumbs on top in a neutral position, neither to the left or right.
Your knees should be slightly flexed and your body should have
a slight bend at the waist.

Take some time to hit some balls at the practice facility. Start off by dividing your practice ball bucket into quarters. Build up or chase your swing down by starting off slowly. Hit the first 10 balls with a quarter swing. The next 10, hit with a half swing. The next 10, hit with a three quarter swing and then the rest with a full swing. This gives you the most important thing in golf: rhythm, pace and tempo.

I hope these tips help you get off to a good start and I look forward to seeing some of you on the practice tee at Willow Valley. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at: drewitt@sympatico.ca
