Golf is a game that should be taught young if given the chance. It has many more benefits than simply getting regular exercise and provides young golfers with countless opportunities.
"A kid grows up a lot faster on the golf course. Golf teaches you how to behave." - Jack Nicklaus
More than Just Exercise...
Golfing teaches kids valuable skills and lessons that they will use for the rest of their lives. It teaches them how to be logical, make calculated decisions, play fairly with others, be honest and good sportsmanship. All of these are life skills that are highly useful both on and off the course. Golfing also teaches hand-eye coordination, balance, and the development of muscle memory and strength. These are qualities that are valued in many other sports, and promote a healthy and active lifestyle.
Golf can be played for leisure as well as for competition, and gives the player an opportunity to be competitive with themselves. Part of the game is constantly trying to improve your own game and beat previous scores. As a child, this teaches you to set goals and how to work hard to achieve them. Golf also gives incredible opportunities for its players, such as scholarships or big purses in tournaments.
In fact, some of the best golf professionals began golfing at a young age. Tiger Woods began golf at the age of 2. Throughout his childhood he accomplished some pretty amazing feats, such as shooting a 48 through 9 holes at the age of 3. I don't even think I could do that now and I'm a bit older than 3! Rickie Fowler began golf at the age of 3, but didn't play competitively until the age of 14. This shows that golf can be picked up at any time, but starting young gives you the chance to develop into a stronger player. It also gives you the opportunity to build a lifelong network. Golfing is great for networking at any age, and starting golf young will create a vast and diverse social network that you may not be able to achieve at an older age!
